Its short length and accessible location make it an easy and fun adventure, with impressive views of the cave, which can be seen from the road. For a more challenging hike, the Rock Garden Trail leads up to the canyon rim, with paths lined with boulders, providing a rugged and scenic experience.

The park’s signature hike, the Lighthouse Trail, is a 5.9-mile round trip that takes you to the base of one of the most famous geological formations in Texas. While the hike can be demanding, the view of the iconic Lighthouse rock formation is well worth the effort. We choose to skip this hike despite its popularity. The kids fell in love with exploring our campground surroundings.

Driving the Canyon Loop

The Palo Duro Canyon Loop offers another way to experience the beauty of the park. The scenic drive, which takes about 30 minutes without stops, allows visitors to take in the sweeping views of the canyon from their vehicle.
